Shade Me
Date:
2010-07-19
I knew Sunday was going to be a big yard day. The hedge was shaggy. The old garage sale whipper snipper has been acting up so it's collecting dust. The lawn is...unfortunate. First thing Sunday morning, I was at Home Depot. Yard bags and a new whipper snipper completed my list. Then I noticed they were having a blow out in the garden centre. I got hostas, sage, lavender, and a 12 foot maple tree. (Getting that thing in the Jeep was a trick and caused another shopper to yell over: "I didn't think you were going to do it!") I got it all home and dry-placed. The tree is for the front yard. In a few years, it should shade the front of the house every afternoon. It'll also make a nice canopy to walk under as you approach the front door. Anyway, while I trimmed the hedge, I scooted the tree around checking it out from all angles. When I was sure it was right, I dug a big hole, filled it with water and dropped in my new Red Emporor maple tree. Then I packed it in securely, nice and straight from all sides. It looks good - it still surprises me when I look out and see a tree there. I've always wanted one there...and this was 22 bucks! And it was so nice to lay in bed last night listening to all that rain.
