The Thread Theory
Date:
2011-05-19
You know the feeling you get when you find a rogue thread sticking out of your best sweater? What to do? Do you cut it, or hide it...or pull it? Any one of these could lead to further problems...but doing nothing ensures the problem remains.
That's how I felt about my catch-all room. The easiest thing has been to avert my eyes - for over 3 years. I knew pulling that thread would lead to a major unraveling. Well yesterday, I gave that thread a good yank. I emptied over-stuffed bookshelves and pulled up old carpeting. I filled several bags with donations of books, videos, CD's and clothes. Once everthing was sorted and culled, that left me with an extra bookshelf. After much pondering, I decided not to park it at the curb. Instead, I've decided to install it in the studio closet...my other "thread". That will involve pulling everything out, putting in the shelves, then organizing everything once and for all. (All the while, trying to keep 4 cats out from under my feet.) What was a two-day job has unraveled into 4...but at least I'll finally have "cut the thread".
