Quality Viewing Ahead! Date: 2007-04-24

Finally, "Night at the Museum" has arrived on DVD. (What's even better, a copy has arrived in my bag.) I haven't been this interested in a DVD release since the recent (and ultimately unsatisfying) "King Kong" - but that's another story. "Night" was great on the big screen and I suspect I'll like it even more as I explore all the behind-the-scenes stuff. It really is an impressive display of CGI. While the purists pooh-pooh CGI movies, I usually have no problems with them. (After all, how else could we have met the inhabitants of "Jurassic Park"?) Mind you, there are movies that suffered from way too much computer generated imagery. ("Van Helsing" leaps immediately to mind.) Not so with "Night at the Museum". I never once got the impression that technology was there to impress me - it was simply there to help tell the story. And for the first time in ages, I could actually tolerate Ben Stiller. (That alone says an awful lot.)
