If you haven't heard this story, you should. In Toronto, there's a priest trying to get his flock to button-up. In fact on more than one occasion, he has included a sermon about proper worship wardrobe right in the church newsletter. "Too distracting" is his overall theme. I have to ask: Too distracting for WHOM? If his chatter is taking a backseat to the women in the audience, I don't think it's a wardrobe problem. Maybe he himself should "look inward". I see this as just another church leader using shame as a lever for conformity. I also see a major opportunity for a marketwise, forward-thinking pastor. He could advertise that his church accepts ALL people - regardless of what they wear. Acceptance is an attractive concept. And really, what is a church for?
